The first time ever,
Bringing my little prince...
To watch performance by....
Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO)
In Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP),
Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC...
It's a 'dating' time..
With my little boy...
Both wearing formal attire....
To go for their Family Fun Day....
And it's really indeed a super great one...
To start to foster the interest,
In classical music...
For my little one....
Magic in Music,
Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra,
Guillaume Tourniaire as conductor;
Yasmin Yusoff as presenter...
Yasmin Yusoff,
Miss Malaysia / Universe 1978...
Whom was the first,
To bring home an International trophy,
The Miss Universe third prize,
For Best National Costume...
She dressed up as a witch....
And I really love the way..
She narrates the whole show~~
Super lively and lovely....
Guillaume Tourniaire,
A French Conductor,
Whom won the prestigious Australian Green Room Award,
For Best Conductor in 2015...
That is currently enjoying..
A meteoric rise,
Onto the international conducting stage...
The magical journey begins with,
A very famous piece by John Williams,
Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone: Hedwig's Theme...
It was originally intended as accompaniment,
To Harry's pet owl Hedwig,
But appears in all films in the Harry Potter series,
To represent the films' themes of friendship, mystery and magic..
Followed by Mozart's famous opera,
The Magic Flute,
Which premiered in Vienna, Austria in 1791...
The bird catcher's desire for a wife,
Is sung in full baritone glory in...
Papageno's Aria "Ein Madchen oder"
Daniel Carison, Bass Britone,
Whom was awarded first prize,
In the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Aria Competition...
Performed the song perfectly...
Three Ladies' Aria "Triumph! Triumph!"
The 3 servants of the Queen of the NIght,
Kill a serpent,
In order to rescue handsome price Tamino,
And triumphantly sings "Triumph! Triumph!"
The 3 ladies:
Ang Mei Foong, Soprano;
Whom is a full-time lecturer,
In Music Department at UPM,
Is also an active researcher,
In the field of voice rehabilitation...
Yeoh Ker Ker, Soprano,
Is an adjunct lecturer,
In National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy (ASWARA)
And YiLing Chaing, Soprano
Has received excellent reviews,
From the press, citing her unique rich and warm middle register...
Yap Jin Hin, Tenor
Whom has appeared in leading roles,
With a number of opera companies in the USA,
As handsome prince Tamino..
Antonin Dvorak's opera, Rusalka,
Based on popular Czech fairytale...
A mystical water nymph (Mermaid)
Was first performed in Prague,
The Czech Republic in 1901...
The tragic love story,
Is the basis for the popular fairytale,
The Little Mermaid...
The water kingdom,
Is entertained by..
The nymphs,
Three Mermaids' Aria "Hou! Hou! Hou!"
Ang Mei Foong, Soprano;
Yeoh Ker Ker, Soprano;
YiLing Chaing, Soprano
Jezibaba's aria "Cury Mury Fuk"
Forebodingly warns Rusalka,
Of great suffering..
If she chooses to take a human form..
Ang Mei Foong carries the role super well!~
Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel
Was first performed in 1893 in Weimar, Germany..
The Witch's Ride opens Act 2,
And propels the adventure of the 2 siblings,
Who are lost in the woods,
With elements of suspense, mystery and adventure..
The Witch's aria "Hurr Hopp Hopp Hopp"
Ang Mei Foong
Uncovers her wicked intentions...
Back to The Magic Flute,
Queen of the Night Aria "Der Holle Rache"
One of the opera's most demanding colatura soprano arias..
Truly amazed by Anna Simiska performance!
Whom has sung Queen of the Night around the world...
A performance not to be missed!~
Last but not least...
The symphonic poem,
The Sorcerer's Apperentice by Paul Dukas
Whom was featured in Disney's animated concert film Fantasia...
Where Mickey Mouse plays the role of an apprentice,
To a wizard with magical blue pointy hat...
Truly love the way how MPO presents this piece...
As it starts with Yasmin,
Describing the piece part by part,
Before performing the full version....
It truly helps the young ones...
To understand and appreciate the whole piece thoroughly....
We'll sure be back..
For another Family Fun Day..
Perhaps bringing little princess along...
=)
Let's check out what's coming up next....
Good to know your little boy enjoyed the show. Sounds like an interesting show to attend!
ReplyDeleteFor sure you had fun with family. I am not into music but it's one of my bucket list to try this with my kids as well!
ReplyDeleteYou always find the best activities to do with children. I can imagine your cute little prince dressed up in formal attire. So precious! He will cherish these memories. I would love to do something like this when I have children. I hope you two had a good time!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very enjoyable performance, and what beautiful lyrics. Looks like you had a blast. Thanks for sharing! -Dexter
ReplyDeleteThe Orchestra has impressive credentials. It would definitely be nice to watch them live.
ReplyDeleteSounds exciting. A great delight for children, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteFor long time I have not been to any orchestra. I am sure your kids and family must have enjoyed this experience.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of philharmonic orchestras who can provide musical accompaniment to theater plays and concerts. I was able to watch a film with a live accompaniment also by a local philharmonic orchestra and that was one fantastic event.
ReplyDeleteIt's always important to expose kids to different types of art so they'll know that there are other things in life other than an iPad! This is a terrific idea ;D
ReplyDeleteI saw the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer stone on the poster! Do you have any video of the event? It will be cool if we can hear it too!
ReplyDeleteYour write up makes me so proud of Yasmin and makes me wanted to watch the show too. Well done!
ReplyDeletewow~ what a nice experience to enjoy Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra!
ReplyDeleteBeen a while since I last attended any MPO events. This reminds me I should probably check out their upcoming events..
ReplyDeletethis kind of activity is much better for kids than letting them hangout with those iPads. Very nice and educational too.
ReplyDeleteinteresting concert. it has been long since I join any musical performance.
ReplyDeleteWhat an experience it must have been for your child. Actually, I too have yet to listen to the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra live.

ReplyDeleteGreat experience for the kids. I would love to watch such performance too.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know about this event until I read your post, thanks for the info sharing :)
ReplyDeleteIt was like I was reading a poem when I read your post. The way you share the information is unique. It is my first time reading a kind of post like this but, I like it. I haven't been in Malaysia although I already visited Singapore. I hope to visit Malaysia in the near future.
